Questions and answers

Getting started

1.1 What do I need?
An iPhone or iPad on iOS 26 or later, and an audiobook you own. Add the matching ebook (EPUB) and Voxlight keeps them in sync.
1.2 What are the free classics?
Fifteen public-domain books that come with the app: LibriVox recordings paired with Standard Ebooks editions, already in sync, so you can press play before you import anything. Remove them, or bring them back, in Settings.
1.3 What changes on iPhone Duo?
Unfold and the book opens as a two-page spread, with the gutter on the fold. Fold it shut and the player is on the outside. Stand it half open on a desk and it becomes a deck. More on iPhone Duo.

Your books

2.1 Which files work?
Audio: M4B, M4A, MP3, AAC, FLAC, WAV and AIFF, and .zip archives of them. Text: EPUB. Not PDF, TXT, Ogg, MOBI or AZW3. A book that comes as numbered MP3s imports as one book with chapters. See Add your own audiobook.
2.2 Can I use Audible or Kindle books?
No. Voxlight plays DRM-free files you own. It does not remove or work around DRM. See where to buy DRM-free audiobooks and ebooks.
2.3 How do I sync an ebook with its audiobook?
Add the EPUB on the book's page, then choose Sync Chapters in the ⋯ menu and pick a method. Step by step, or read the longer note.
2.4 The highlight is in the wrong place.
Open the book's ⋯ menu, choose Re-sync Chapters and pick a stronger method, such as Full Sync. The usual cause is a different edition or an abridged recording.

Plex and Audiobookshelf

3.1 How do I connect my Plex server?
Settings → Connect Plex Server, or the server button at the top left of the Books tab. Sign in with your own Plex account and approve the link. Audiobooks live in a music-type library on Plex: author as artist, book as album. Step by step.
3.2 Plex won't connect.
Check that the server is up in another Plex app. On the same Wi-Fi, allow Local Network for Voxlight in iOS Settings → Apps → Voxlight. Away from home, the server needs Remote Access. Reopening the app tries again.
3.3 Does Audiobookshelf work?
Yes. Settings → Connect Audiobookshelf, enter the server address and log in. The catalog appears in the Books tab.

Moments

4.1 What are Moments?
Tap once while listening to keep a passage: the audio clip, a transcript made on your device, and your note. They sync to your other devices through your own iCloud.
4.2 How do exports work?
Export Moments as Markdown, JSON or Readwise CSV, from one Moment or in bulk from History. A single Moment also shares as an audio clip or a card.
4.3 Why does a Moment's clip arrive after its transcript?
Clips sync over Wi-Fi only. A Moment saved on cellular syncs its text first; the clip follows when you're on Wi-Fi.
4.4 A Moment says “Waiting to transcribe”.
It retries whenever you open History, and there is a Retry button beside the label. A hot device waits until it cools down.

Purchases and privacy

5.1 What does it cost?
Voxlight is free to download, with the classics and up to five of your own books. Voxlight Pro is a one-time purchase with Family Sharing. No subscription.
5.2 Does Voxlight collect data?
No. No account, no analytics, no tracking. Transcription runs on your device. Sync uses your own iCloud. Read the privacy policy.
